The Better Equestrian is a community for riders, trainers, instructors, horse owners, and horse lovers who want to learn more, ride better, and care more thoughtfully for their horses.

Meet the Founders

The Better Equestrian is led by two experienced dressage professionals committed to thoughtful education, correct basics, and horse-centered learning.

Wendy Garfinkel

Wendy Garfinkel is a dressage trainer, educator, USDF Gold Medalist, and co-founder of The Better Equestrian. Her teaching is rooted in the belief that good training should build confidence, clarity, and trust between horse and rider.

With decades of experience and a lifelong love of horses, Wendy helps riders develop thoughtful, effective partnerships with their horses. Her approach emphasizes correct basics, clear communication, and steady progress for horses and riders at every stage.

At The Better Equestrian, Wendy brings a practical, horse-centered approach to education, helping riders understand not just what to do, but why it matters.

Rebecca Cowden

Rebecca “Becky” Cowden is a dressage educator, trainer, mentor, USDF Gold Medalist, and co-founder of The Better Equestrian. She is dedicated to helping riders become more confident, capable, and connected partners to their horses.

Known for her thoughtful and patient teaching style, Becky brings deep experience in training, clinics, and rider education. Her approach emphasizes correct fundamentals, honest communication, and a strong understanding of the horse as an active partner in the learning process.

Through The Better Equestrian, Becky helps create a supportive environment where riders can ask questions, build skills, and continue growing both in and out of the arena.
